Born in 1938 and studied in Karnatak University, Dharwar, Bombay University School of Economics, Bombay and Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, Baltimore in USA and John F. Kennedy School of Government in Harvard University.

Worked in Government of Karnataka (1964-1974) and in the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, as a visiting faculty(1974-75). Was also a Management Consultant in the Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad(1975 - 1979).

Manu N. Kulkarni

Worked in UNICEF from 1979 -1998 in Afghanistan, parts of Africa and mostly in India. Has extensively travelled around the world. Attended World Environment Conference in Brazil, World Social Summit in Copenhagen, World Social welfare Conference in Hong Kong and Jerusalem. Arthur Andersen Conference on Learning in the 21st Century at St Charles USA, Honorary Member of many Voluntary Organisations India and abroad.

Published almost 200 articles on development issues since 1960 in Professional Journals like Economic and Political Weekly, Economic Times, Manushi, Humanscape, Down to Earth etc on women and children, environment and human rights issues. Has been Accredited as Special Correspondent of the Economic & Political Weekly, Mumbai. Has helped the Government of Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh in many programmes benefiting women and children, as aprofessional of UNICEF from 1979 to 1998 which has enriched his understanding of India's development's programmes where the grass and roots meet!

Presently Chairman and Honorary Trustee of HOPE FOUNDATION with its operations at Bangalore, and New Delhi. Member, Board of Goveners , Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore(1998 - 2002 July) and member, General Body, National Council for Educational Research and Training , New Delhi (1998 - 2002 July). Member of the Executive Committee of M.P. AIDS Control Society, Bhopal. Carried out a study on the Truckers Profile of Sexual Behaviour and their perception of HIV/Aids in Bombay - Agra Highway. Presently assisting and supporting Bharat Petroleum Ltd. To set up a Health Kiosk to educate Truckers on HIV/AIDS prevention in One Stop Truck Shop at Dhon (A.P).

Presently Member of the Prime Ministers National Commission on Population, New Delhi. I am also Professor Emeritus in Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur, Karnataka as well as Honorary Fellow of Social Sciences, New Delhi. Was honoured with Distinguished Leadership award of American Biographical Institute , Raleigh (North Carolina) USA in the field of Human development in 1998. was picked up as a qualified Professional for inclusion in the 2001 edition of International Who's Who - published from USA. Acting as Consultant for for Health Care Institutions for ISO certification, Member, CEO Policy Forum, CII, New Delhi on Biotechnology. Attended the Master Class on the “Art and Practice of Leadership Development” in May 2006 at John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University and was also awarded fellowship to attend the programme.

4. Accredited as Press Correspondent of the Economic and Political Weekly, Mumbai to cover the proceedings of the World Economic Forum Annual Meet in New York from the January 31, 2002 to February 4, 2002.
5. Invited to be a Panel Speaker by the Vision Group of Karnataka Government on Biotechnology to speak as an NGO Spokesperson on Public Acceptance of GM Crops in Bangalore Bio - 2002 held on 17th April 2002.
6. Was invited by Economist - London to attend their Asia Pacific Round Table on Pharmaceuticals in October 2005 and an Article entitled “Looking for Market or Tackling Diseases was published in the issue of Economic and Political Weekly of 17th December 2005.
